Basic Biscuits for Icing

To decorate Christmas Biscuits, first there much be biscuits! Try this super simple recipe for a buttery and crumbly base to your Christmassy creations.
Ingredients
140g caster sugar
1 egg yolk
300g plain flour
Vanilla seeds/essence
Method
Cream the butter and sugar together until light, creamy and fully combined. Slowly mix in the egg yolk.
Stir in the flour and vanilla seeds/essence.
Once the mixture is combined, make it into a ball and chill in the fridge for at least 2 hours.
Once the biscuit mixture is firm, put the mixture onto a sheet of cling film or parchment paper. Cover with another sheet of cling film or parchment and roll out between the two sheets to about 1cm thick.
Remove the top sheet and cut the biscuit mixture into the desired shapes.
Place on a greaseproof tray and bake at 170C for 13 mins, or until lightly golden brown.
Cook and decorate to your hearts content.
